In each article, SiteBlog enables you to create a customized field name that can be used in any other article. It's essentially a template text field.
For example, you can create a custom field called "I'm currently listening to" (this is known as the Key). If you're currently listening to Bob Dylan and you wish to let your readers know, then select the "I'm currently listening to" Key and type "Bob Dylan" (this is known as the Value) in the corresponding text box. You may enter more than one Value per Key.
To add a new custom field:
1 |
Under the Publish menu tab, click Advanced Editing mode (if you're not already in Advanced Editing). |
2 |
In the Key field, enter the title of the custom field. For example, "Listening to". |
3 |
In the Value box, enter the corresponding "answer". For example, "Bob Dylan". |
4 |
Once created, it will appear immediately: You can then modify or delete the field as necessary.
SiteBlog adds a colon after the Key. The result looks something like this in the blog: The idea is that in the future you can keep re-using the same key ("Listening to") and enter new values. |
To add multiple Values per Key, separate the values by commas. |
To use an existing custom field in other articles:
1 |
Now that the "Listening to" field is created, you can use it in any other post, when you are creating a new one, or editing an existing one, simply by selecting the Key and entering a new Value. |
2 |
When you create or edit a post, select the Key from the drop-down menu. |
3 |
In the Value box, enter a new answer. |
On your blog page, both the Key and its Value will appear next to each other. Multiple Values per Key will be separated by commas.
The uses for custom fields are nearly limitless, but the Key and Value must be entered in textual form.
If you are familiar with HTML, you can enter basic HTML tags for both the Key and Value. Using the example above, we can use the "Listening to" Key and for its Value, enter "<img src="http://link_to_image_of_Dylan">" so that an image of Bob Dylan will appear instead of the text, "Bob Dylan," This is the work-around for not being able to directly enter an image in the Value field. Please make certain that you only link to images you own, have permission to use, or are not copyrighted. |
