Verified By Visa/MasterCard SecureCode (Cardinal Centinel)

The Verified By Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs are fraudulent protection schemes built-in to Merchant Manager (via the Cardinal Centinel module).  By participating in these programs and enabling the Cardinal Centinel module in Merchant Manager, you will require all of your customers already enrolled in the program to submit a PIN or password (after having entered their credit card numbers) to proceed with the order, thus dramatically reducing the number of fraudulent orders and chargebacks.

 

You must use either the Authorize.net or Verisign Playflow Pro payment gateway in order to participate as a merchant in either program.  In the future, Cardinal Centinel will support other payment gateways.

 

In order for either program to be operational, both you (the merchant) and your customers must be enrolled accordingly.  If you participate in the Verified By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode program as a merchant but a customer does not, then that customer's checkout experience will be just as before.  Only customers who are already participating in the program as cardholders will be prompted to enter their Verified By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode PIN/password; all other customers will checkout normally.  To reiterate, customers who do not participate in the programs will be able to checkout from your store normally and are not prompted to enter any additional PIN numbers or passwords.

Once you enroll, you will be listed in a directory of all participating merchants and made accessible to consumers who prefer to buy from stores that offer the programs, thus increasing your marketability.  To enroll in either program, please log in to SiteControl and click Ecommerce.  Upon enrolling, Cardinal Commerce - an independent provider of these programs - will contact you directly to determine the best plan for your needs.  Please note that Cardinal Commerce has the sole responsibility of supporting your merchant Verified By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode account.

 

To activate the Cardinal Centinel module:

Click Orders in the main menu of Merchant Manager and then Checkout.

Click Cardinal Centinel, then Install.

To enter your Verified By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode account information, click Edit.

As provided to you by Cardinal Commerce, please enter the:

  • Transaction URL

  • Processor ID

  • Merchant ID (user name)

  • Password

For the Deny Ineligible Credit Cards option, select No (the default setting) if you wish to accept credit card types that are ineligible for the Verify By Visa or MasterCard SecureCode programs, or Yes if you wish to reject such credit cards.

 

Certain credit card types (such as pre-paid and corporate/commercial cards) are ineligible for the Verify By Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs.  As a merchant participant, you can choose to either accept or deny these types of cards.  If you choose to accept (the ineligible credit cards) and select No, then such orders will be authenticated without the protection of the Verify By Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs -- just like orders from consumers who have eligible credit cards that have not enrolled in either program.
