The DNS and MX records page in SiteControl is a table of the various components of your domain name and their specific IP addresses. The vast majority of users will never need to edit or even view the DNS records; use it only if you need to create new records and redirect it to a third-party source or modify existing mail records to a third-party E-mail service.

In SiteControl, click Domain Name. |

In the Domain Names page section, click Edit next to the domain name that you want to use. |

In the Domain Name Summary page scroll down and click Advanced DNS Settings. |

In SiteControl, click the Domain Name icon under Manage Services. |

In the Domain Names page section, click Edit. |

In the Summary page scroll down and click Advanced DNS settings. |

In the Source field of the Add a New Resource Record section, enter the name of the record. NOTE: If you are entering a domain name in the Source field, you must end it with a dot. For example: "somesource.com." |

Use the dropdown menu next to it to select the type of record: A, CNAME, NS or TXT. |

In the Destination field, enter the location to which the new record will point. If you selected type A, then the destination ought to be an IP address; if you selected type CNAME, then the destination ought to be a domain name; if you selected type MX, then the destination ought to be the name of the new mail server provided to you by the third-party mail server; if you selected type NS then the destination ought to be a name server. NOTE: For all CNAME, MX and NS types, you must end it with a dot. For example: "somecname.com." or "some.dns.domain.net." |

Keep in mind that this new record will be a third-level domain. |

Click Add Now. |

Assuming the destination exists and is already online, then the new record should take about four to six hours to update. |
To edit existing DNS or MX records:

In SiteControl, click the Domain Name icon under Manage Services. |

In the Domain Names page section, click Edit. |

In the Domain Name Summary page scroll down and click Advanced DNS Settings. |

In the Current Resource Record section, you can choose to change the name of either the Source or the Destination. NOTE: If there is a dot at the end of the existing name, then please retain the dot in the new name. |

Click the Update button next to the appropriate Destination field. |

If you need to delete a record, then click Delete next to the appropriate Destination field. |

Please allow up to four to six hours to update. |

Modifying your DNS or MX information can result in web site and/or e-mail failure. Be sure you want to make these changes prior to modifying any information. Please do NOT delete pre-existing records unless you are absolutely certain of its consequences. |
