Web-based FTP Quickstart

Our web-based FTP tool is pre-configured just for you and your domain. Since you have already logged into SiteControl there is no need to log in again to use FTP. Simply launch it and it will be immediately available to you.

To use the Web-based FTP tool to upload and download files:

1

Click Website in the main navigation menu of SiteControl.

2

In the File Managing section click FTP.

3

Read the message on the page, and select the first Login button if your computer is behind a firewall, or the second Login button if not.

4

Click Connect.

5

If this is the first time, then you will be prompted by a security warning on which
you ought to click Run.

6

A separate window will launch. The FTP interface is divided into two parts where the left half is your local computer and the right half is the remote server.

(For more information on the buttons and functions available in the interface, see Additional Buttons and Menu Options.)

7

Navigate the left half of the interface to find the file(s) you wish to upload to
the server. To open a directory, double-click it. Once located, highlight those files (hold down the CTRL button to choose multiple files at once).

8

Navigate to the right half of the interface to find directory to which you wish to upload. In general, the directory will be the "www" directory. Double-click it to open the directory.

9

If you're transferring a text file (such as HTML or Microsoft Office documents),then select the ASCII option  in the  drop-down menu in the  middle of the interface; if you're transferring image or media files, then select Binary.

10

Now click the Upload button. Note that the Upload button is the blue triangle pointing to the right in the middle of the screen and the download button is the blue triangle pointing to the left.  (Reverse the steps to Download the files from the server to your computer.)

Note: Sometimes, in order to see a file that has been uploaded or downloaded, you might need to click on the refresh button at the top right corner of either the local panel (left) or remote server panel (right).

Clicking this button will show an updated list of files.

11

When done, clickDisconnect in the upper-right corner of the overall Web-based FTP window.

Note: To download the files from the server to your computer, you basically reverse the steps, by selecting a file on the right side of the interface, and clicking the download button (The blue triangle pointing to the left.)
