Understanding FrontPage Extensions

In order to utilize many of the advanced features and components offered and supported by Microsoft FrontPage, FrontPage Server Extensions must be installed on your Web server. FrontPage Extensions implement:

Authoring features such as uploading and downloading files and ToDo lists
Administration features such as setting end-user, author and administrator rights
Dynamic content and browse-time WebBot components.

Some WebBot components do not work correctly if the FrontPage Server Extensions are not installed on the server. The following components require the FrontPage Server Extensions:

FrontPage created server-side Image Maps
WebBot Confirmation Field component
WebBot Discussion component
WebBot Registration component
WebBot Save Results component
WebBot Scheduled Image component
WebBot Scheduled Include component
WebBot Search component

If your site uses one of the WebBot components listed above and FrontPage Server Extensions are not installed on the server, an HTTP 404 error appears in the browser when a visitor accesses the Web page.
