Streaming Media

We provide support for RealAudio, RealVideo, Windows Media and other multi-media files for customers who have a Developer-level plan. We operate the Helix Server from RealNetworks, The RealNetworks Helix streaming media server can deliver more than 50 types of media data formats including RealAudio, RealVideo, Windows Media, QuickTime, MP3, MPEG-4, 3GPP (H.263 and H.264.) It can also deliver media to wireless devices.

When video or audio is "streamed," a digital audio or video stream is transmitted from the server over the Internet in small packets. The media is played piece-by-piece, in "real time," as the packets are received. Except for a small amount of buffering at the beginning, the process is almost invisible to the user.

In order for your site's visitors to play RealAudio or RealVideo files, they must have the RealPlayer installed on their system. This can be downloaded free of charge from www.real.com. If your site's visitors need to play Windows Media files they can download Windows Media player from www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx
